Working With Bob Gordon and Linda Davidson
Without a doubt, interning for Bob Gordon and Linda Davidson at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Rocky Mountain Realtors is an informative and eye-opening experience. Day one they sent me to a home closing. I had read about real estate closings. Professor Curtis Sears had us participate in class room discussion. Being in the closing, day one of a rewarding internship experience — this was so much more exciting. I’m ready to be a Boulder home owner myself now!
Assisting an Open House
This opportunity offers a hands-on approach to the real estate industry that cannot simply be studied in a textbook. After curating an open house with Bob, I developed a better understanding of the listing process. Under Bob’s guidance, I was actually able to interact with potential buyers. And, Bob Gordon had me attend an open house as a perspective home buyer. Between seeing what Gordon does at his open houses and what wasn’t done at the three I attended – well, it was an eye opening experience to be sure.
Biggest surprise – most Realtors didn’t call when I left my phone number. I couldn’t believe it. Mr. Gordon told me this would happen, but still…
Creating Promotional Material
I learned the importance of building a sphere of influence and establishing new contacts on a daily basis. In addition, I have created several videos catering to both buyers and sellers that offer crucial advice and tips on the transaction process. These videos are shared online and actually benefit Bob’s business in a meaningful way by attracting more traffic to his website. The videos were a lot of fun and a highlight of a rewarding internship experience.
Attending A Closing – Highlight To A Rewarding Internship Experience VIA CU Boulder
Finally, I attended a closing with Linda that provided insight regarding the final steps in the home-buying process. Viewing the closing gave me a behind the scenes look at how title companies, banks, and agents collaborate to finalize the transaction. Things I learned about closings in Colorado:
- Home buyers get the keys to the house there and then — and the Seller gets her check for the proceeds (or a wire).
- The title company supplies a closing agent that walks everyone through all the paperwork
- Buyers sign a lot of documents, way more than the home seller.
- There are a lot of people in attendance for a Boulder home closing: mortgage lender, two Realtors, the sellers, the buyers (and her children) and the title officer. And then me, college student on day one of a very special and rewarding internship experience. Thank you Bob & Linda!
