True Real Estate Story
An agent in one my networking groups recently posted a bizarre story. She had listed a home for sale. The owner really needed to sell quickly. And the house was priced just right. So well in fact, that offers started to roll in. Great, right? Except the listing agent cannot reach home seller.
This is a true story out of Bismark North Dakota. Wondering what happens next? I sure was intrigued, enough to share in a blog post.
Realtor Goes The Extra Mile … extra 100 miles
The agent in North Dakota tried everything. She even jumped into her car and drove the hundred miles or so to the Seller’s new home. And left a note. But to no avail. Everything she tried – phone calls, email, leaving a note, was all to no avail.
Realtors Sometimes Discover Death
Yikes. Can you imagine? Trying to reach a home seller and discovering your client is dead? Even just from natural causes, this would be unsettling. This was NOT the case in this story, thankfully.
It would be sad to imagine a real estate agent would be the first to notice something distressing like this, not a family member or friend. I digress.
Near Death Experience
Another agent wrote about having a client go MIA and it turned out there had been a serious car accident. The owner came out of a coma and was grateful for the contract, as she really had to sell after that.
Call The Police
More than a few Realtors in the group suggested calling the police and requesting a wellness check. In the end, this was what it took to overcome the cannot reach Home Seller scenario.
Owner Went For An Extended Cruise
This answer came up a lot. Several agents mentioned having client that went out of town on a cruise, forgot to add international dialing to their phones and had no idea they were missing calls. Could you imagine coming up to your VM box filled to the brim with frantic messages regarding the potential sale of your home?
Foreclosure Causes Fears!
One of the most prevalent answers in the Q & A was the possibility of an impending foreclosure. At least 1/2 a dozen agents spoke of clients going dark with fears of a looming foreclosure.
If this one happens to you – stay in touch with your agent. Having worked through the Great Recession, I can personally attest that a short sale is much better than a full on foreclosure.
Just A Phone Call Away
As it happens, it just took one phone call. To the police. Once the officers got the Seller to answer the door, the agent was able to resolve everything and even get the poor client under contract. Sometimes being a good agent means the willingness to go the extra mile (or extra hundred miles) to find a successful outcome!
