Crown Jewel Of Vista Ridge
As the Vista Ridge subdivision got under construction back in nineties, the developers wanted something special to draw buyers east. Colorado National Golf Club (under different name/ownership was the answer). This state-of-the-art course boasts many great features. Only two holes run alongside each other. Play moves along and between the subdivision. Thoughtful design provides plenty of million dollar views at Colorado National Golf Club. And Vista Ridge has been a swinging success since day one.
Where Are We
Don’t worry. All the carts are equipped with GPS at Colorado National Golf Club. The course itself is located in Erie Colorado, with the club house just inside the main community entrance. Vista Ridge and Colorado National Golf Course are about a mile west of I-25 and Baseline Road/Hwy 7.
Club House Facilities
I’ve played a few times at the Colorado National Golf Club and am always impressed by the facilities. The clubhouse is constructed of timber and rock. Slate tile floors add to the interior ambiance. You’ll find a well stocked Pro shop with everything you may need last moment for your golf outing. There is an onsite restaurant/bar and during the events I participated in, a food cart on the course.
Rates, Membership And Deals At Colorado National Golf Club
The course offers memberships with the best values reserved for all CU alumni. Non-members are encouraged to make reservations well in advance. The course share sister-club status with golf courses around the nation and has a special relationship with Fox Hill in Longmont. The best information for rates will be on the official Colorado National Golf club site. CNGC is the home of the CU golf teams, and has played host to championship NCAA play (so expect to see students honing their skills!).
Online deals abound, but call to double check your reservation. The online system sometimes double books over league play.
Quality of Play
Very little reward for taking the big risks at this course. The course’s best attributes are killer views and long Par 5 play. Big hitters will be rewarded. The greens are okay, though the condition varies visit to visit. Keeping in mind this course is surrounded by a variety of housing and the course itself caters to families and events, it can be crowded with league play, events, families taking advantage of “burger night.”
The course does have great cart girls. Might seem like a silly thing to mention. Still, play can slow with all the leagues. And there is no walking option. Play at Colorado National Golf Club is reliant upon carts. One downside to the carts – the GPS is in the dash, so be ready for sun glare 24/7 when trying to use this system.
The course layout at Colorado National Golf Club is pretty good. Only two holes are side by side. However, there are five sets of Tees, so you can find yourself behind decent players shooting the entire 7,676 yards – makes for a slow round. 5 hours of play not uncommon.
July 4th Celebration
Colorado National Golf Club converts to one of the largest, funnest community block parties every year for a major Fourth of July celebration. And the best part? The event is usually held on the 3rd or 5th of July. A slew of giant air filled bouncy castles and slides are set up for small children. The delectable if slightly unhealthy carnival food is on hand – including funnel cakes.
Music blasts from speakers and families and children take over the driving range and some of the course at Colorado National Golf Club. All manner of fun stuff – some folks bring corn hole, others a Frisbee. Kids run around having fun. As sunset turns to evening, the fireworks commence. For a small town, it really is a great show.
My family enjoys this holiday event. Our tradition? Whip up some delicious picnic food and find a comfortable spot to watch the fireworks. Our menu usually includes: baked chicken, homemade potato salad, fresh seasonal cherries and home baked (GF) chocolate chip cookies. The perfect picnic before the fireworks show!
