My First Visit to East Simpson Coffee Co
Its a blustery chilly day as I arrive for my first Americano ever at the East Simpson Coffee Company on Lafayette’s east side.
The moment I cross the threshold I feel welcome. Todd, another patron, says, this coffee shop is the heart and soul of Lafayette. I believe him.
Iowa and Simpson
A few doors down from the intersection, you’ll find this unassuming coffee shop. Its almost magical. From outside, I thought for sure it would be smaller indoors. And yet, tall old world ceilings call back to the days of the wild, wild west.
Ample seating and a low murmur of conversations are inviting. I take a look around.
There is a second room, tucked away back. It even has an old-school screen door. That room is decidedly more quiet.
I check with the counter service where I meet Leslie the owner. She tells me East Simpson Coffee Co offers the quieter reading room area for the comfort of clients seeking a little down time from the hustle bustle.
There is also an entertainment space even further back for parties and events.
Out front, plenty of tall tables provide seating. There is a friendly blackboard filled with art, sort of tucked away between the front and back rooms. And a bulletin board chock-full of business cards, flyers, community notices, music flyers and more.
There’s even a height chair tucked away back there. This place is very family friendly.
Meet Proprietors Leslie Wing-Pomeroy and William Pomeroy
Leslie is the vibrant owner of East Simpson Coffee Co. She looks at my business card (these days sporting a picture of me in my Broncos swag) and tells me her first espresso machine was Bronco orange. Alas, they wore it out after three years.
William Pomeroy designed a really cool spinning wheel from parts off an old sewing machine. Check out the photo in this blog.
Friendly staff, excellent selection of treats and fantastic espresso beans. The shop serves Ozo, one of Boulder’s premier coffee roasters. As it is my first visit, I splurge and enjoy an Apple Cinnamon coffee cake. To be honest: it is delicious!
