Long Lost Boulder Colorado
I first wrote this post on NoBo Little Libraries way back in October of 2013. Sadly, since then the super cool rocket library featured in this post has been removed. I have no idea where this artistic library wound up being relocated. On the other hand, this I first wrote this post, the number of little libraries around Boulder – and the country for that matter – has exploded.
We live in a community with great access to literature and the arts. There are beautiful libraries and plenty of mini libraries all across town.
Nobo Little Libraries are a fun part of Boulder’s ever evolving culture. And they are not merely limited to North Boulder. These little book hotspots are popping up all over town. Read on…
Rocket Ships in Boulder
Stumbled upon a rocket ship in North Boulder yesterday. Caught my eye, all red and silver and flying nowhere just sort of hovering in midair. I walked up and tentatively touched the siding. There is a latch to open the doors on the side of the rocket ship and I thought…why not?
Turns out this little rocket ship is a miniature library, sponsored by Lucky’s Market and tucked away next to one of my favorite eateries in Boulder – China Gourmet. There is an extensive facebook page for NoBo Little Libraries – be sure to check it out and friend this kewl organization.
Inside the sculpture/Rocket Ship are several inviting alcoves, filled with a mix of literature and an invitation to leave a book of your own. I’ll be sure to have some books to place inside the rocket ship next time I’m in North Boulder. Check out Nobo Little Libraries when you can. Sort of like Geocaching but you don’t really need a GPS because I’m telling you where to look – just outside the front door of China Gourmet and next door to Lucky’s.

The Rocket ship is the artwork of Jimmy Descant. He is originally out of New Orleans and these days doing his thing in Colorado. His site is at: http://deluxerocketships.com/

There will be five more of these. The next one is to be installed on April 23rd in the Holiday Park at14th and Yaupon. Tinker Art Studio created it and the Holiday Neighborhood HOA sponsored it. The following ones will go at Uptown near Subway and 4580 Restaurant and we hope at Boulder Meadows. Please call if you would like one in your neighborhood or would like to help pay for one. The artist responsible for the sculptural library receives $1000. We had a grand from Awesome Boulder and many wonderful donations as well as you have recorded, the one at Lucky’s Market completely sponsored by them. They were awesome to us. Thanks Bob for the kindly comments! I really do try to create wonderment in folks who just happen upon my work! The most common comment is, ‘I like it, but what is it????’!
