Superior Elementary School (SES) is one of the two public grade schools in Superior’s Rock Creek subdivision. The first to open, it was instantly a massive hit. So much so that additional learning buildings were immediately added to the campus.
The school is top rated and offers a number of great activities to students. There is a garden area, complete with water system, where the children can get hands on experience caring for plants and vegetables. A full time art specialist, Mike Wojczuk oversees a strong art program. Each class one fifty minute art period per week. Art helps students develop self-discipline, awareness and personal fulfillment. Students also have two PE and two music classes per week. There are special performances throughout the year. During the first trimester, the fifth grade class put on the play Aristocats.
Superior Elementary is a Kindergarten through Fifth grade school; it operates on a trimester system. The school has a very informative newsletter called The Creekside Connection. Every grade participates in several field trips per year as part of the content -rich learning experience. Most recently, the fourth graders visited the Denver Art museum on a class trip. Students can expect homework – based upon their grade level. And every year, the fifth grade class spends two nights, three days in an outdoor education experience.
YMCA runs a Before and After school program at SES. The program employs a licensed, full time director and offers age appropriate activities. The staff focuses on four core values: Honesty, Respect, Caring and Responsibility.
Parents are encouraged to volunteer, participate in PTA and even have lunch with their child. Parent teacher conferences for 2013 are February 26,27 and 28th. SES has a vision statement as well as a Mission statement.
The Superior Elementary School community encourages all students to reach their individual potential by engaging them in challenging learning experiences. Our school will prepare students to think independently, logically, and creatively; to enjoy learning; to be respectful of others; and to act as responsible citizens.
The community is very supportive and there are constant fundraisers throughout the year. Most recently completed was the annual bike drive. There are several age appropriate playgrounds on the campus. The best one has a climbing structure called the web. It looks like a lot of fun. There is great information available at the BVSD school site.
