Race Info: November 22, 2012, 10 AM Turley’s Turkey Trot

The Boulder Road Runners club is hosting Turley’s Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving on Thursday November 22nd, 2012, at 10 am. The race is a 5 K run. The goal is to raise money and food donations for Boulder Community Food Share. Pre-Registration is fifteen dollars ($15)/twenty dollars ($20) day of/on-site. .
This low key event is about running and raising funds for an important cause. John Bridges with Boulder Road Runners says his group has raised over one hundred thousand dollars for the charity over the years. There will also be a truck on hand for non-perishable/canned food donations. Participants are encouraged to donate food/money at the time of the race. The race is held at the CU Research Park, 1234 Innovation Drive, Boulder, CO 80303.

What to expect? In years past there have been 700 to 1200 participants. Good weather can cause a bigger turnout. The race starts at 10 am (day of registration starts 9 am). This year there will be a loop, twice around is 5 Kilometers. The race ends inside Potts Field, The University of Colorado – Boulder’s ack and Field facility on Colorado Blvd between 30th and Foothills Parkway. Some participants dress in costume for the event and many families have made it a tradition before the Thanksgiving feast. No dogs allowed; no strollers. All paid race participants will receive a six ($6) dollar coupon for Turley’s Restaurant (long since closed, location is now home to a great burger joint that makes fries in beef fat and also a Torchy’s Tacos). Do not expect a goody bag, this event is all about doing something good. It’s good for your body – think of it as paying it forward before the big meal. And it’s good for Boulder, since our neediest community members benefit from your generosity. Remember, $1 purchases four meals.
Here is a copy of the 2012 registration form. I will add additional information to this blog as it becomes available.
Thank you for helping spread the word about this great event that benefits Community Food Share the food bank for Boulder and Broomfield Counties. We are on track to distribute over 7.65 million meals to those in need this year. All the food is distributed free of charge through a network of over 50 member agencies and our own direct service programs. Community Food Share thanks Boulder Road Runners for hosting this event for the last 21 years!!
You are very welcome Tammy. Is there an update on what was raised in 2012? Would like to post this info.
