2015 Colorado Shakespeare Festival

Set outdoors, beneath a midsummer’s evening stars, enjoy the comedy, tragedy and love of William Shakespeare.   The second longest running US Company of performers delivers in this year’s season of the 2015 Colorado Shakespeare Festival.   The setting: the beautiful Flagship campus of the University of Colorado at Boulder.  The works include Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Wittenberg, Henry V and a limited production run of Henry VI Part I.  And the evening, considered one of the finest ways to enjoy Colorado.

A Lovely Marriage Proposal

On the night we attend the showing of Much Ado About Nothing, the producer creates a beautiful lead-in to the production.  He tells us a former staff member is in the audience, in love and then calls out, “Take it away.”  As if part of the play itself, a young man rises from his seat, then kneels and proposes to his stunned girlfriend.   The amphitheater erupts in cheers as the blushing heroine says yes. And then it is all kisses.  Believe it or not, that’s not the play.  That really happened on the evening our group saw our first production of the 2015 Colorado Shakespeare Festival.   Totally magical.

Colorado Magic Under The Stars

Speaking of magic, it is just that, to attend the 2015 Colorado Shakespeare Festival, in the lovely outdoor Mary Rippon theater. There isn’t a bad seat in the house.  Of course, if the weather turns wet, no umbrellas though rain gear is allowed.    A great deal of planning goes into the productions.   The set is simple, yet dynamic.  The cast uses microphone gear and is easily heard.  The lighting is quite aptly done and the costumes are fantastic.   As the play progresses, the sky darkens from dusk to dark.  I think being outdoors lends some intensity and character to the festival.
