What does a Boulder winter storm watch have to do with Boulder real estate? Actually, quite a lot. Being a Midwesterner by birth, I’m an immigrant to Boulder and the Rocky Mountains. Where I grew up, it was either winter, with cold grey skies or summer with humid grey skies. Seriously.
Boulder is different. We get sudden snow storms and blue skies – sometimes on the same day. There is a saying out here, “if you don’t like the weather, wait an hour.”
Snow Storm Warning
This is a great time to address household chores on your property. Get to the local Home Depot and pick up some fertilizer today. When all that snow melts, it will be free watering on your lawn and push all that needed fertilizer deep into your yard. The results – this Spring your yard will be a lush green and weed free.
Rentals and vacant property
With Spring temps, it is a good idea to remind tenants to keep the heat up this week and look in on any vacant homes. Too often, a Spring snow storm can catch owners unawares and you can have frozen pipes, so make certain the heat is at a reasonable temperature protecting your vacant investment.
Sprinklers
Speaking of frozen pipes, though early, some folks have turned their sprinklers back on. If so – protect your system by wrapping towels or blankets and a plastic bag around the copper tubing water shut off on the outside of your house. Remember, spaces between houses can become much colder during a storm.
